Minnesota: Now’s the time for sex-abuse survivors to come forward
In Minnesota, there’s new hope for sex-abuse survivors seeking justice.
In May 2013, Minnesota’s governor signed into law legislation known as The Child Victims’ Act.
The new law alters, expands, and in some cases eliminates a statute of limitations for civil suits involving child sexual abuse. The new law allows victims who were sexually abused when they were younger than 18 years old to bring a civil lawsuit for damages arising from the abuse, regardless of how long ago the abuse occurred.
The new law also provides a three-year window, during which victims whose claims would have been time barred by the previous statute of limitations, to bring civil suits against alleged abusers.
If you were sexually abused as a child in Minnesota or have information about such abuse, please contact us toll-free at 855-529-4272, or email our office below. Initial consultations are free and confidential.
